He Whispers to Me

He whispers to me, “you’re not alone”

I’m here with you, in me you have a home

A dwelling that’s safe and always secure

A protection from weathering, that’ll always endure

You’ve always had the keys, just walk inside

Come back to me girl, my door is open wide

I’ve been waiting for you, I’ll never leave

I’m here for you, you can cry on my sleeve

There there my girl, your tears are safe with me

We’re together now, all that’s left is for you to just be

No need for words or explanation

I know you fully, I’ve always been your strong foundation

I gave you freedom to reach the edge

You’ve been walking so far out on the ledge

Is it worth it my child? What’s on the other side?

Do you like the world that awaits, or do you want to hide?

Your choice, it’s all yours you see

Do you want more and more, or do you just want me?

Day 5 Devotional: What is a Pinion?

IMG_0398

~ Psalms‬ ‭91:4‬ ‭ESV‬

Well tonight I learned that a pinion is the outer part of a bird’s wing, including the flight feathers. Pretty neat huh?

Jesus is all about  making sure we are fully covered, and also entrusts us with the same task – to protect and completely cover  what we’ve been given.

I forget what verse, but in the Bible we are given the commission to be disciples and go out amongst all nations, covering the ends of the earth to share the story of Jesus – Likewise Jesus himself spreads his wings and spills his blood to cover us, until the end of himself.

I may be drawing parallels that were never intended, but nonetheless,  it feels good to ponder about pinions and the protection of God tonight. Much better than scrolling through my Twitter feed.

Day 4 Devotional: Light Shines in Darkness

Light Shines in Darkness

Day 4 Devotional: Thursday, Sept 22

light-shines2

Every morning when the sun shines

I know Lord, that you are mine

Even when darkness threatens to take

my sleep-filled night and keep me awake

I approach this day with a holy power

Knowing that you are with me every hour

In you, your light overcomes all fear

You shine bright and make things clear

No matter what lies ahead today

You will go before me and make the grey

Turn to light, bright with beauty

Because my God, you are with me

Day 3 Devotional: Don’t Quit

Well, I promised to write a devotion a day, no matter how I felt, starting in April 2015. It’s no surprise that my lofty idea quickly lost momentum, and I only posted two daily devotionals. Ah, shucks.

I am notorious for starting projects without ever finishing them. I joke that I have ADD, mostly because I’m serious. It’s really difficult for me to keep focused on anything in life.

So, instead of promising specific dates and times, I wanted to pick up where I left off. I’m not sure how many daily devotionals I’ll write up, but here’s Day 3 for you.

Day 3 Devotional: Don’t Quit

Wednesday, September 21st

dont-quit

Such a simple phrase, yet holds so much power.

Don’t Quit.

Whether you’re in a job that is hard to wake up for, you’re in losing a battle to a nasty illness, or you’re knee deep in an addiction, I pray that you don’t give up.

You may take twenty steps forward, just to take one huge, giant leap backwards. But please, don’t quit.

I pray now for encouragement.

Holy Spirit, you are light. You are newness. You are comfort and peace. I pray that our eyes would be opened wide to see MORE of you today, and less of our failure. May your presence and peace engulf us in a warm embrace. May we feel connected to your fruit of peace, patience, kindness and endurance. Help us to know, we are SAFE to endure this day. This season of life. Help us to stand firm in faith, and in the present moment. And give us courage to keep going, to just get through this day. With your power and your holy help.

Amen.

Day 2 Devotional: Letting Jesus Fight the Battle

“Keep running. Keep trying. Don’t fight it. Stop crying.”

Those are the notions that drain from the world and flow in a river to find me unfurled.

God protects

“Run with me. I’ve got this. I’ll give you my shield. I’ll protect you from wind. The enemy will yield.”

That is my Lord who speaks over me and with his great power, only He sets me free.

Thank you God for the ways your holy spirit empowers me and protects me. Thank you for freeing me from the pressures of this world. From the nagging voice that tells me that I need to be stronger. Only in you Lord do I find the freedom of letting go and allowing you to be my strength for me. Thank you for fighting life’s arduous battles for me. Thank you for conquering the impossible. Thank you for your victory. Today I stand knowing that I’m victorious in you.

Ephesians 6:14-17 Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God

Not Fooling: April Devotional

I’ve decided to write a devotion a day. No matter how I’m feeling. Here goes nothing….

April 1, 2015

winter leaf

Have you ever felt like you’ve been in a season of winter? Your leaves have grown cold and frost bitten. They’ve withered and fallen to the ground. And you are left bare and trembling, looking for the sun to shine.

Well my friend, I want to remind you – the sun will rise again. And even more importantly, the Son has already risen. He is with you in this season, whether you see him or not. Even though your roots feel cold and broken, he will keep you firmly planted in the storm.

I’m in the dead of winter myself, but I have experienced many beautiful seasons of growth and seasons ripe with fruit. In my current affliction, I encourage you to look back and remember the seasons you have endured. I pray that you have hope for new seasons ahead. No matter how long this winter lasts, let us be encouraged by our Lord that spring is on the horizon. May we look to Christ the son as our sun. Amen.
